As part of the joint SynergyFuels project (WP 7.1), Fraunhofer UMSICHT determines the potential of suitable biogenic feedstocks for TCR, EXO, and fermentation technologies. To this end, the following selection method was developed, and the technological quality requirements for the feedstocks were determined.

As a result, the following feedstocks were identified:
- for TCR and EXO technologies: sewage sludge, organic fine fraction from “household waste,” bio waste, fermentation residues, bagasse, grape and olive pomace, coffee grounds, spent grains, hop waste
- for fermentation: wheat straw
The theoretical potential quantities were estimated for the selected input materials:
- for TCR and EXO technologies: approx. 12 million Mg (DM)/a for the above-mentioned feedstocks
- for fermentation: approx. 12 million Mg (DM)/a of wheat straw
Based on the theoretical potentials, the available or still mobilizable potentials are currently derived according to the following method.
